South Carolina has more than 200 aerospace manufacturing companies and suppliers, employing more than 22,000 people. These companies are widely distributed throughout the state and include Cytec, 3M Co, Lockheed Martin, BAE Systems, Flexible Technologies, Goodrich, GKN, Honeywell and SKF.
Notably, Boeing South Carolina is located in North Charleston and is The Boeing Company's second 787 Dreamliner final assembly and delivery facility and the company's first commercial airplane plant outside of Washington State. Aircraft production began in July 2011, and the first plane was delivered in 2012. The site is one of only three in the world assembling and delivering wide-body commercial aircraft. Boeing South Carolina also fabricates and assembles aft fuselage sections for the 787 at an adjacent plant and manufactures interior parts for the Dreamliner in the state.
