Utah Governor Sets Goal to Increase $16.1 Billion Export Total by Another $1.4 Billion

Salt Lake City, UTAH---Governor Gary Herbert presented the first annual Global Forum where 450 people throughout the day enjoyed 15 rapid-fire presentations covering a variety of export topics- including export readiness, global brand management and finance risk mitigation.

In 2013, Utah exports totaled $16.1 billion, of which $7.6 billion were valued-added exports. Governor Herbert challenged Utah exporters to grow that $16.1 billion by another $1.4 billion over the next five years.

"We have scarcely tapped the surface of what is possible," said Governor Herbert in his address. "More than 95 percent of our customer live outside of the United States. Think about it- that is 7 billion potential customers, 2.4 of whom are online."

Governor Quinn Announces Wrigley Company Expanding in Illinois

YORKVILLE – Governor Pat Quinn today announced that the Wm. Wrigley Jr. Company will strengthen its presence in its home state by adding production of Skittles, one of the world's most popular candy brands, to its Yorkville facility. The expansion, assisted by the state of Illinois, will help Wrigley create 75 permanent manufacturing jobs and support hundreds of construction jobs. Today's announcement is part of Governor Quinn's agenda to create jobs and drive Illinois' economy forward.

"The Wrigley company has been a strong business partner of the state of Illinois for more than a century," Governor Quinn said. "This major expansion will mean even more jobs and economic growth for a company whose roots run deep in Illinois. The Wrigley Company knows firsthand that Illinois' skilled workforce is second to none, and there is no better place in the world to grow."

Governor Quinn and 1871 Announce Major 25,000 Square Foot Expansion

CHICAGO - Governor Pat Quinn today was joined by 1871 CEO Howard A. Tullman and members of the Chicagoland Entrepreneurial Center board of directors to announce that 1871 will grow by 25,000 square feet this summer. The $2.5 million expansion will increase 1871's size by 50 percent and is the latest major accomplishment for the innovative co-working space, which just had its second birthday.

"In just two short years, 1871, its member companies and alumni have created more than 1,000 jobs," Governor Quinn said. "1871 has become a true entrepreneurial hub for our state and its expansion means more career opportunities for the hardworking residents of Illinois. We look forward to a strong partnership with 1871 as we continue to grow our start-up community and support our innovators."

Continental Tire Invests $129 Million To Expand Mt. Vernon, Illinois, Plant

Continental Tire the Americas, plans to invest $129 million in its Mt. Vernon, Illinois tire facility and create more than 100 new full-time jobs over the next three years.

The company said driving forces behind this investment are an increased demand for Continental and General brand tires, the need for better complexity management in the plant and emerging technologies in tire production. The investment supports Continental's comprehensive growth strategy for its tire operations worldwide.
