Kentucky is a top state in the plastic industry and since 2010 the industry experienced 61 expansions and 9 nine new locations, making a total of almost 200 plastic manufacturers in Kentucky. Among the new companies in Kentucky are Legacy Plastics, Alpha Inc., Dr. Schneider Automotive Systems Inc. and Genova Products Inc.. This industry is fuelled by the strong automotive industry in Kentucky. There are numerous automotive suppliers that produce plastic parts for the production of cars. Among the German companies are for example Bruss Dichtungstechnik and Montaplast.
In addition there are numerous companies that specialize in packaging. One example is the Indian company UFlex. An economic development trip to India from Gov. Steve Beshear in 2010 can be marked as starting point to this long lasting partnership. The new location project in Hardin Country occurred in phases, initially creating 125 new jobs and a $90 million investment. The originally set total investment of $180 million was already raised to $250 million, with UFlex stating that this investment will just be the beginning.
