Welcome to the State of Louisiana

The Louisiana Advantage

Strategically located at the confluence of the Mississippi River and the Gulf of Mexico, Louisiana has become a U.S. leader in foreign direct investment (FDI) attraction and a key trade and investment destination for international companies. Business-friendly policies, an abundance of talent, a unique culture and an unrivaled infrastructure make Louisiana an ideal partner for international companies.

In 2014, Louisiana's business climate was ranked No. 1 in the U.S. by Business Facilities magazine. In addition, The Economist called LED FastStart® "the most notable statewide workforce-development initiative." According to a landmark independent study published by the Tax Foundation and KPMG, Louisiana offers the lowest state/local tax burden in the U.S. for new manufacturing operations, and the state boasts some of the lowest natural gas and electricity costs in the nation. Louisiana is also one of 10 states that earned an "A" in Pollina's 2011 evaluation of state business incentives, considering value, application process, flexibility and risk. And with the largest port complex by tonnage in the Western Hemisphere (and six deepwater, 13 inland and eight coastal ports); singular concentrations of rail, highways and pipelines; and a growing database of development-ready sites, Louisiana provides unmatched access to U.S. and international markets.

WHY INVEST IN THE STATE OF LOUISIANA

Best Business Climate

Continuing its impressive economic rise, Louisiana placed No. 1 in Business Facilities magazine's Best Business Climate rankings in 2014 – up from its previous ranking of No. 4 in 2013. Today, Louisiana now ranks higher in every national business climate ranking than it ever did prior to 2008.

Strategic Location and Unrivaled Logistics

Louisiana offers access to distinctive transportation assets, including seven commercial service/primary airports, six major interstate highways, and the world's largest port complex. The Port of South Louisiana is the largest single port in the nation (measured by tonnage), and the state is one of only two states in the nation where all six of North America's class one railroads converge.

Low Taxes: #2 for Tax Competitiveness

In 2012, the Tax Foundation ranked Louisiana second in the U.S. for lowest tax burdens faced by new firms and 10th for mature firms. This low cost of doing business coupled with the state's low cost of living make Louisiana a magnet of economic opportunity.

LED FastStart®: #1 Five Years Running

Business Facilities magazine named LED FastStart® the nation's best state workforce training program – five years in a row. Called the "gold standard for workforce training solutions" by The Economist newspaper, LED FastStart creates customized recruitment, screening and training solutions for eligible companies, all at no cost.

Access to Talent

The state has undertaken some of the nation's most aggressive and effective education reforms, including a teacher-prep model that links student test scores to teacher preparation in order to create higher accountability for teachers. Ground-breaking programs in public education are also under way in New Orleans, fostering the next generation of classroom leaders and social entrepreneurs. Louisiana also boasts excellent universities, many of which have been ranked among the top schools in the nation.
